Angela Merkel visits towns devastated by floods

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has promised fast financial aid as she visited towns worst affected by last week’s flooding. Across western Europe, more than 180 people have died, and a vast clean-up operation has commenced even as rescue teams continue to search for survivors.
