Australia to take China to the World Trade Organisation over import tax hikes

Australia is taking China to the World Trade Organisation in a bid to reverse the Beijing regime’s “unjustifiable” action in hiking import tax duties on Australian wine imports.

The nation’s wine exporters have been dealt a $1 billion blow as a result of China’s actions and have managed to receive just $20 million in revenue.

Government officials say they would prefer to directly negotiate with China -but are prepared to go through a WTO dispute resolution process which could take up to four years.

It comes as Australia reached wine export deals with the United Kingdom under the free trade agreement.
