Boris Johnson confirms troop withdrawal from Afghanistan

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed most British troops have withdrawn from Afghanistan, ending the UK’s official role in a conflict lasting 20 years.

More than 450 British troops have died during the conflict with the Taliban and fighters from al-Qaeda since 2001.

In a statement to the House of Commons Mr Johnson said most troops returned home in 2014.

U.S. President Joe Biden announced in April that American troops will leave Afghanistan by September 11, the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Centre terror attacks.
