Chinese Embassy in Canberra denies Uyghur Muslim persecution claims

China has denied human rights abuses against its Muslim minority Uyghur population in a bizarre and fiery event at its Embassy in Canberra. China sought to downplay diplomatic concerns through a highly staged propaganda presentation labeled ‘Xinjiang is a Wonderful Land’.

Despite photographic and eyewitness evidence, the Chinese government continues to claim the mass incarceration of Muslims is a lie. China’s ambassador to Australia, Cheng Jingye, said he would like to see a”“sound and stable”” development of Australian-Chinese relations.

However, he issued a warning against imposing sanctions on China in the name of standing up for human rights, saying,”“we will not provoke but if we are provoked … we will respond in kin””.
