Chinese spy test of Taiwan was something you would see ‘during wartime’
ASPI’s Dr. Malcolm Davis says the Chinese spy plane which tested Taiwan’s air defenses was “the sort of profile that would be used during wartime”. “It was provocative in the sense that what you saw was a Chinese intelligence-gathering aircraft fly at a very low altitude about 30 meters above the waves over the Taiwan Strait to try and sneak under Taiwan’s radar,” he told Sky News.
Dr. Davis said he had reason to believe “we are in for tough times ahead” and Taiwan would be the flashpoint, but there was disagreement about the timeline for when China might make a move.
“Certainly, we are seeming to move towards some sort of dangerous climax on this dispute over Taiwan.”
