Cormann calls nations to stand against autocracy in OECD address

Mathias Cormann has sued his first address as Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to call nations to stand against autocracy.

During the meeting he signalled the need to preserve individual liberty and increase economic and social wellbeing and made it clear he will monitor the growing contest between the United States and China.

Mr Cormann also outlined plans to guide the world’s richest economies to act on climate change and tackle the post-COVID recovery.

He implored nations to aim to reach net zero emissions by 2050 and said the pandemic had given them an opportunity to establish a more environmentally sustainable path.
