Free countries used Italy lockdown to ‘get away’ with ‘suspension of rights’

The Australian’s Adam Creighton says he thinks China “unleased a wave” of propaganda advocating the Italian government go into lockdown – causing a domino effect onto other free countries allowing them to “get away” with suspending human rights.

“I think China unleased a wave of propaganda early last year with fake videos of people dropping dead and various bots on twitter that were advocating very strongly for the Italian government to lockdown and I think that propaganda was successful.

“When one free country did it, Italy, other free countries thought they could get away with it too.

“And there was this pernicious domino effect – so we’ve just kind of ended up I think by sheer fluke into this extraordinarily bad equilibrium where we’ve suspended human rights in some cases for more than 14 months.”
