Joe Biden announces steps to combat racial inequality in America

President Joe Biden has become the first sitting US president to visit Tulsa in Oklahoma at the site where hundreds of Black Americans were massacred a century ago and is announcing steps to combat racial inequality.

These include expanding federal contracting to small, disadvantaged businesses, helping communities that suffer from poverty and working to stop housing discrimination.

White residents shot and killed an estimated 300 black people and looted homes and businesses in 1921 after a white woman accused a black man in an unproven claim of assault.

Tulsa’s black community was left devastated and no one was ever charged for the attacks.
