US President Joe Biden has given a massive increase to NASA’s budget to get back to the moon by 2024, according to ANU cosmologist and astrophysicist Dr Brad Tucker.
“Trump accelerated the plans to get to the moon from 2028, down to 2024. The Biden Administration with project Artemis, the plan to get to the moon, they actually gave an extra $400 million on top of Congress’ request,” he told Sky News.
Dr Tucker said “this is, I think, the thing that most people would have been waiting to see” as returning to the moon was a plan President Trump established early in his presidency.
“Clearly getting to the moon is a very US-driven political issue regardless of the side of the aisle you find yourself on, so really to accelerate making sure the US – especially NASA – gets to the moon by that goal in 2024,” he said.
