The White House has defended the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying it is vital to protect America’s interests.
The meeting between the two presidents is going to see President Biden “lay out America’s intentions” and attempt to restabilise the US’ relationship with Russia, according to Sky News contributor Michael Ware.
“The White House says that any kind of meeting like this with President Putin is important because you get to hear from the man himself so that you can begin or continue to understand the differences,” he told Sky News.
Mr Ware said the meeting was about “managing those differences” America has with Russia and to “restore predictability and stability to the relationship”.
“President Biden is going to go into that one on one meeting and he’s going to lay out America’s intentions and America’s capabilities and then it will be up to the Russian president to do with that what he will.”
