Pressure mounts after Republicans vote down Capitol Riots commission

Internal pressure is mounting on the US Republican Party over a decision to block a commission into the Capitol Riots.

Nearly all Senate Republicans banded together in opposition of the independent investigation into the January 6 insurrection with the bipartisan push voted down 54 to 35.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticised his colleagues – warning he would force the Senate to vote again at the appropriate time.

The White House deputy press secretary has also accused senators of failing to uphold their oath to support and defend the constitution.
