Prime Minister Scott Morrison is ‘building a coalition’ against China

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is “building a coalition” to take on China at the G7 with Japan already backing Australia, according to Perth USAsia Centre Research Director Jeffrey Wilson.

“For the last 12 months, Australia’s labored in a bilateral trade dispute with China on our own, and the size differential means a country like Australia is never going to prevail in that,” he told Sky News.

Mr. Wilson said Japan has already decided to support Australia against China, showing the “agenda is gathering steam,” and Mr. Morrison’s strategy is working.

“The strategy the prime minister is taking today at the G7 is actually one of building a coalition, getting other countries to come together as a force multiplier for what Australia’s trying to do.”
