Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has released new merchandise featuring the slogan “Don’t Fauci my Florida” as a dig to the disease expert’s strict mask mandate and lockdown measures – a decision that has sparked outrage among liberals.
The Florida governor and his team released merchandise featuring t-shirts and beverage holders that said “Don’t Fauci my Florida” and “how the hell am I going to drink a beer with a mask on?”
But the decision to capitalise on Dr Fauci’s controversial recommendations has sparked outrage among liberals as Florida sees a surge in coronavirus cases.
“Over 38k Floridians have died of COVID and @GovRonDeSantis thinks it’s appropriate to sell merch mocking their deaths,” Miami-Dade Democrats wrote on Twitter.
“We can’t let this continue. We must elect a Democratic Governor in 2022.”
However Florida Senator Marco Rubio called Governor DeSantis’ merchandise “funny”.
“[Dr Fauci] has had no problem becoming a national celebrity and being on covers of magazines,” he told Fox News.
“That means he is not immune to sarcasm, he is not immune to criticism.
“So what do I think? I think it’s funny.”
