Russia considers labelling Alexei Navalny’s foundation an extremist group
A court in Russia considers labeling groups linked to the jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny as extremist organizations. According to Mr. Navalny’s chief of staff, prosecutors have asked the courts to prohibit the groups from publishing anything online, organizing protests, and taking part in elections.
If Mr. Navalny’s crowdfunded anticorruption group was labeled extremist, supporters would be liable for long jail terms for financing and organizing extremist activity. The process of declaring the groups as extremist will also be classified as Russia deems the actions of Mr. Navalny’s foundation a state secret.
