US Attorney General calls sweeping investigation into Minneapolis Police
The US Attorney General has opened a sweeping investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department after former police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of murdering George Floyd.
Mr. Chauvin was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter and faces a prison sentence as high as 40 years.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said the inquiry will determine whether the Minneapolis Police Department has engaged in a “pattern and practice of unconstitutional … policing”.
