US Police officer charged with manslaughter over Daunte Wright’s death

A former Minneapolis police officer will be charged with second-degree manslaughter over the death of black man Daunte Wright. The 20-year-old died after being shot on Monday during a routine traffic stop in Minnesota . Police said Mr Wright had been pulled over for expired licence plates before it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant. Bodycam footage shows.

A struggle broke out as police tried to arrest him, and officer Kim Potter allegedly intended to use her taser but fired her handgun instead. Days of protests erupted after Daunte Wright’s death with demonstrators saying the incident shows how the justice system is biassed against black people.
